Learning strategic thinking: chess lessons for children

Our charitable foundation, SemarglS, is always dedicated to supporting the holistic development of children, especially in situations where they need additional attention and support. One of the activities we organized this month was an engaging chess lesson for children. This game not only develops logic and strategic thinking but also fosters patience, determination, and the ability to make well-considered decisions. Chess Lesson: Skill Building and Intellectual Challenges The lesson was conducted as an interactive class, where children were introduced to the fundamentals of chess—from setting up the pieces and understanding basic moves to learning essential strategies. During the session, each child had the opportunity to ask questions and receive individual guidance from an experienced coach. The main goal was to provide children with tools to develop critical thinking, which is valuable not only in the game but also in everyday life. Friendly Competition in a Supportive Atmosphere The lesson took place in an environment of friendliness and mutual support. Children were able to observe each other's moves, learn from their peers' mistakes and victories, and test their own strategies. The chess lesson became a platform for friendly competition, where each participant could try their hand at being a grandmaster, advancing step by step towards success. Why Is Chess Important for Children? Chess is an excellent opportunity for children to develop various valuable skills: Improving focus and attention: Chess requires concentration on each move; Enhancing memory and logic: During the game, children memorize rules and learn to anticipate their opponent's actions; Developing decision-making skills: The chessboard encourages quick analysis of situations and finding the best solutions. Our foundation plans to regularly organize similar events to provide children with opportunities to grow, discover their talents, and create lasting memories.
